The most common ARK server errors

In the following section, we have compiled the most common errors and the associated solutions for you.

Important Please create a backup before making any changes to the server.

Modifications

Unfortunately mods usually cause the most problems. Mods improve the game, but they also usually add additional load to the server, which in turn can lead to lags and performance breakdowns. If the server does not start, please first check whether the mods are compatible with the latest version of ARK. Even if the mod is compatible, remove it anyhow to see if the server starts.

Bad savegames

From time to time, a broken savegame can prevent a server from starting. Savegames can be corrupted by mods, for example, if they are removed and an item is completely removed from the game world. Usually, the only answer is to start a new savegame, unless you can restore a backup of the savegame.

Hardware

The final point is hardware. Resources can sometimes, for example, be allocated incorrectly or an over-utilized system can slow down the server process. If you have gone through steps 1 and 2 and are not able to find anything wrong, report the problem to us via ticket.

Evaluate error messages

ARK delivers crash logs as soon as the server crashes or has another interruption. To do this, you must have enabled the “Servergamelog” option. Using this log, you can identify the errors in 90% of the cases. In order to be able to analyze the log file more precisely, you first have to log into your server via FTP and open the following path: “/ShooterGame/Saved/Logs” where you will find all log data.

If troubleshooting does not work, our Customer Happiness Team is available through our ticket system . Alternatively, you can also reach out to the GPORTAL community in the forum.

Unable to load world object headers from world save file

The message usually means that the world (savegame) is corrupt. To fix the error, restore the last working backup.

Ran out of memory allocating XXXX bytes with alignment 0

This error message is a memory problem. In most cases, this indicates that there is not enough RAM available. ARK has no RAM limit and the error is caused by mods. If this error message occurs, please contact our Support Team who will help you resolve the issue.

Bad name index

Bad name index indicates a mod is not compatible with the current version of the game. Check if there is a more up-to-date version of the mod, or restore an old backup.
